Q -

Where do we buy the uniform?

A -

It can be bought locally from the Guide Shop in St Swithen Street, Nevis Sport on George Street, or call the Glasgow Scout Shop (www.basecampglasgow.com).

Q -

What is the Uniform for Cubs?

A -

The only must have for Cubs is the sweatshirt. We do not ask you to purchase this within the first week or two, but if your son/daughter is happy to be part of the group, then you can buy it when they are ready.

Q -

What else do I have to buy?

A -

The group supplies the different Woggles, and all badges. A new set of badges will be given when the young person moves from section to section, ie. Beavers to Cubs.

Q -

When will my child be enrolled?

A -

After a few weeks your child will be asked to learn the fundamentals of what it means to be a member of the World of Scouting. They will then be Invested, which means that they will be asked to recite the Cub Scout Promise and the Cub Scout Law. They will be presented with a set of badges and their woggle, which will be slipped on to their necker.

Q -

Can I come and watch my child be Invested?

A -

Yes, you can but please be aware that it is not always possible to take photographs. Please ask one of the leaders before you take any photos of other people's children, when you are within our Scout Group.

Q -

What is the Uniform?

A -

Cubs wear the Green Sweatshirt. The 1st Portlethen Scout Group necker is predominately Gold with a Black border. Beavers and Cubs may be given various coloured Woggles, owing to different Lodge (Beavers) or Six (Cubs) they have been put in. Scout wear the leather Woggle.

Q -

Why do the children all have different coloured woggles?

A -

The woggle is a way of recognising which Lodge or Six they are in.

Badges:

Q -

What badges can Cubs do?

A -

You can do any of the badges you want. We keep a stock of most of the badges that can be gained, including the Staged Awards.

Q -

Where do the Badges go?

A -

Click on the relevant link below.
Beavers badges
Cubs badges
Scouts badges

Q -

Do I have to pay for Badges?

A -

Not directly. The badges are paid for by the Scout Group, which, of course, is funded by the fees and fund raising.

Q -

What can I do with my old badges?

A -

A lot of Cubs and Scouts take a Camp Fire Blanket to camps and use it to keep warm. You can sew your old badges on to your blanket, and swap with other Cubs or Scouts that you meet.
